Von Miller’s Uncertain Future: Is His Time with the Buffalo Bills Over?

Von Miller’s Uncertain Future: Is His Time with the Buffalo Bills Over? - The Wandering Buffalo

A future Hall of Famer with two Super Bowl rings, Miller was supposed to be the veteran leader who made game-changing plays in the postseason. But as the Bills fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, Miller was barely a factor.

He played just 16 snaps and recorded one tackle—not exactly what Buffalo had envisioned when they signed him to a massive deal in 2022.

Now, the Bills enter a crucial offseason with serious salary cap concerns. Miller, set to make $17 million in 2025, could be a cap casualty. Cutting him would save $8.4 million.

So, the question is: Is Von Miller worth keeping, or should the Bills move on?

Miller’s 2024 Season: Flashes of the Old Von, but Not the Same Dominance

After an injury-plagued 2023, Miller showed signs of life in 2024. While no longer the elite pass rusher he once was, he finished with:

• 6 sacks

• 17 tackles

• 7 tackles-for-loss

• 8 QB hits

• 85.5 PFF grade (on limited snaps)

Those numbers are solid, but do they justify his price tag? Miller isn’t the Bills’ primary pass rusher anymore. Greg Rousseau, Leonard Floyd, and A.J. Epenesa all played bigger roles in Buffalo’s defensive front.

The Bills have to ask: Is Miller’s veteran leadership worth the cost?

Brandon Beane’s Comments Hint at a Possible Pay Cut

Buffalo’s GM, Brandon Beane, acknowledged Miller’s improvement in 2024, stating:

“I thought this year you started to see Von return to form… made some plays, made some sacks, looked more like himself.”

But Beane also left the door open for a change. Last offseason, Miller took a pay cut from $20M to $12.5M to stay in Buffalo. Could he do it again?

If Miller agrees to another significant salary reduction, the Bills might be willing to keep him. If not, his time in Buffalo could be over. s s

Buffalo’s Salary Cap Reality

The Bills are currently $7-8 million over the projected 2025 salary cap.

Cutting Miller outright saves them $8.4 million, giving them instant flexibility. However, restructuring his contract could allow him to stay while reducing his cap hit.

It’s a tough decision, but one that will likely come by early March.

What Happens Next?

The Bills have a history of making tough roster choices. If Miller stays, it will likely be on Buffalo’s terms. If he’s unwilling to take another pay cut, he could be looking for a new team.

The NFL Combine in February and the start of free agency in March will be key indicators of what the Bills decide.
