The Wandering Buffalo | Keys to Week 5: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills come into Week 5 riding high after taking down their division rival Dolphins 48-20. Buffalo’s offense was riding high all day, and their defense really slapped on the clamps for the remainder of the game. In Week 5 the Bills take on the Jaguars in London. Here are some of my keys to the game.

Adjusting Routines for Travel:

This idea gets talked about a lot, yet is somehow still underrated. Having traveled to some pretty different time zones, I can say that there was quite an adjustment upon arrival and coming back. Professional athletes are creatures of habits, from the way they rehab every Week to when and what kind of food they eat. I think the Bills coaching staff is very mindful of things like this, and I am confident they will have the guys ready for Sunday. I think we may see a bit of a sluggish start for the team, but by the end of the first quarter, they’ll be rolling.

Keep the Offense Rolling:

The Bills offense against the Dolphins looked borderline unstoppable. Allen and Diggs were able to pick apart the Dolphins defense. Diggs was able to score three touchdowns, while Allen accounted for more touchdowns (5) than incompletions (4) on the day. The run game didn’t put up the sexiest numbers but was also very effective in moving the chains, keeping drives alive, and, most importantly, killing the clock toward the end of the game. We have seen gradual increases in Kincaid’s involvement in the passing game, and I expect him to take a big step forward this Week. I’m predicting he will get over 7 targets this Week.

Limiting Trevor Lawernce/Weapons:

The Bills romping of the Dolphins didn’t come without its negatives. Late in the game, Tre White ruptured his Achilles and will miss the rest of the year. While our thoughts are with Tre for a speedy recovery, we also need to look at the secondary going forward. I think Jacksonville will be a good measuring stick of how our secondary will match up throughout the season. I think the plus and minus here is that we already had to cope with life without Tre, and we have mostly the same guys on the roster. Between Benford, Jackson, and Elam, all of these players saw significant snaps and played fairly well in the absence of Tre. There is no easy one-for-one swap for Tre, but I think we have the guys on the roster to get by. This, combined with the effectiveness of the pass rush, and I think we will be ok. I look for Elam to have his first active game this year and get some reps, and I expect Ja’marcus Ingram to be the Bills first practice squad call-up of the season.

What are your thoughts on this Week 5 showdown in London? What are your keys to the game or some game predictions? Leave them in the comments and as always….GO BILLS!!
