The Wandering Buffalo | Week 4 Keys to the Game: Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills

The Bills improved to 2-1 on the season after an impressive win against the Washington Commanders. Their Week 4 opponent, the Miami Dolphins, also had an impressive win in Week 3, beating the Denver Broncos 70-20. The Dolphins have made significant improvements over the last couple of years and now pose a real threat to the Bills in the AFC. This game will be a great measuring stick for the Bills not just in the AFC East but also in the AFC as a whole. Here are some of my keys to another Bills win.

Keep the Defense Rolling:

The Bills' impressive win over the Commanders was led by a very strong defensive performance. The Bills defense gave the Commanders all kinds of trouble, tallying 9 sacks, 4 interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Going into Week 4, the Bills defense will face a much more potent offense. In Week 3, the Dolphins put up a total of 726 yards on offense, with 376 in the air and an absurd 350 on the ground. They were able to keep Tua clean, and he threw for four touchdowns, no interceptions, and took no sacks. Rookie RB Achane put up an absolutely crazy 203 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries. Oh yeah, they were able to have this offensive success with Waddle out of the line-up. The Dolphins are loaded with speed and an offense that is coming into this game humming.

Defensive Line Continuing the Pressure:

The Bills were able to get nine sacks this Week. That’s a great number and will be hard to repeat against the Dolphins. Sam Howell is a young QB who tends to hold onto the ball vs. Tua being a QB who likes to get the ball out quickly and let his weapons go to work. While 9 sacks is a tough act to follow it’s really the high percentage of pressure that impressed me more in the Commanders game. Getting pressure on Tua and making him uncomfortable/ making quick decisions can lead to mistakes from him. This has been a recipe to take down the Dolphins. They also have a revamped run game they can lean on, but making Tua uncomfortable and capitalizing on that will be key to a win.

Playing Smart/Winning the Turnover Battle:

In Week 1 against the Jets, we saw Josh Allen be pretty reckless with the ball. In Weeks 2 and 3, we saw a much smarter version of Josh, really picking his spots on where he had to take chances and capitalizing on what the defense was giving him. The Dolphins offense has shown the ability to score points in bunches scoring 36, 24, and 70 thus far this season. Their offense is not the kind of offense you want to give extra chances, while the Bills offense can really make you pay if given extra chances. I believe whoever wins the turnover battle in this game will come out on top.
